About Swirl & Chords Fashion and Music Gala

"Songs and Silhouettes"

To help reverse the devastating impact diabetes is having on our community, King & I Productions is taking action!

Diabetes is an American health epidemic. An estimated 29.1 million people have diabetes in the United States and another 79 million people are on the way to getting the disease. Diabetic retinopathy is 46% more prevalent in African Americans than non-Hispanic whites. African Americans are at least 2.6 times more likely to have end stage disease due to diabetes than Caucasians. Diabetes kills more Americans every year than breast cancer and AIDS combined. Diabetes doubles the risk of heart attack, blindness, neuropathy and stroke.

In honor of Diabetes Awareness Month in November, King & I Productions in conjunction with Project Briggs Inc., our 2018 501c3 Fiscal Partner, the 2018 Mistress of Ceremony, Ms. Angela Stribling, radio personality of Howard University Radio (WHUR) and host of “Pillow Talk with Angela” will present Swirl and Chords – “Songs and Silhouettes” for the 2nd consecutive year followed by the Red Carpet VIP reception featuring sounds by the incredible music wizardry of DJ Suspense. The 2017 inaugural event raised $5k for diabetes awareness and was brilliantly hosted by Tony nominated multi-talented Actress/Singer Sheryl Lee Ralph, special guest speaker, Joan Bardsley, Assistant Vice President, Nursing and Research Integration for the MedStar Health Research Institute (MHRI) and MedStar Corporate Nursing, and featuring Lord & Taylor, and five (5) extraordinary designer fashion designer showcases to establish the foundation for this year’s special event.

Through the art of Fashion (SWIRL) and Music (CHORDS), King and I Productions will showcase the talents of extraordinary individuals in bringing education, awareness, and prevention to a cause that impacts countless lives every day and generate funding to support the mission of the ADA and potentially save lives.
